Tips for decorating your home on a small budget

Decorating a home can be a challenging task, especially if you have a limited budget. But don't worry, with a little creativity and smart choices, you can create a beautifully decorated home even on a small budget. In this blog post, we share some handy tips and tricks to help you decorate your home without breaking the bank.

Plan and budget:

Before you start decorating your home, it is important to make a plan and set a budget. Make a list of the essential items you need and set a budget for each part of your home. Having a plan will help you shop in a more focused way and prevent impulsive purchases.

Friends and family:

Before you hit the shops in search of new items, check with friends and family. Chances are they still have a handy side table, unused rug or leftover paint in the attic that you can take with you.

You can also share on Facebook or Instagram that you are redecorating your house and need new items. If anyone has anything lying around and wants to get rid of it, this could yield great items.

Cheap furniture:

Create a mood board on pinterest and look for inspiration. What style suits you and what items would you like? That way, you can start looking for furniture in a targeted way! We do not recommend going to the furniture mall. You can score the nicest items at the thrift store. Sometimes the furniture is like new, but you pay a second-hand price for it.

So visit local thrift shops, online marketplaces or go to garage sales to find unique and affordable pieces. With a little refurbishing, you can give these items a new look. Shopping for second-hand pearls takes a bit more time, but it is a lot more affordable!

Do you prefer buying new stuff anyway? Then we recommend taking a look at the following shops: JYSK, Ikea, Kwantum and Seats and Sofas.

DIY-projects:

You can also start making furniture yourself! Get creative and consider DIY projects. For example, get a nice wooden board from the attic, a pot of paint from Kwantum and four legs from Ikea. A little DIY and then you have a unique desk in exactly the colours and dimensions you wanted for a small budget. Of course, you can do the same with chairs, cupboards and side tables. You can also create your own artwork by making paintings or make your own pillowcases with fabric remnants by sewing.

Less is more:

Are you moving out of your house for the first time and thus starting completely from scratch? Remember that less is more. Especially in a 30m2 studio, it is wise not to overload it with furniture. Only buy what you really need, so a bed, a wardrobe, tables and chairs will go a long way!
